A Look Back on November 5th

11/5/2001
Providence Business News writer Alexa K. Mavromatis talked with Quentin Sanford, Jr about the Star Diner in East Providence.

"A couple of years ago, Sanford said, the land was to be sold and the diner donated to the American Diner Museum for its exhibit at the Heritage Harbor Museum and Library. But the deal fell through, and Sanford said he knew the best way to preserve the diner was to buy it."

On this date in 1952, Worcester Lunch Car Company diner #837 was delivered to West Lebanon, New Hampshire. Roy Stewart opened it shortly thereafter and has retained the Four Aces name to this day. We last visited the diner during one of our diner trips in July 2005.

A state away and about a decade later, Hubert Stewart opened Stewart's diner in Farmington, Maine. Stewart's later became the Farmington Diner. Development forced the diner's move and this 1949 Mountain View diner remains stored in Wilton, Maine.
