In the News - Blue Benn Diner

We read an article online today written by Monica Gagnier of Business Week. In it she made reference to the Blue Benn Diner. We take issue with her statement shown below.

"On a typical morning, there’s a line going out the door of the Blue Benn, a classic metal diner that was manufactured in 1948 in Paterson, N.J., by a company once known as Silk City Design."

Remaining skeptical we searched Google. A couple other articles mentioning Silk City Design and the Blue Benn were found. However, information we have indicates the Paterson Vehicle Company produced the Silk City Diners. In searching through Richard J. S. Gutman's book, "American Diner Then & Now" no reference to Silk City Design was found.

At one time there were many diner manufacturers in the New York and New Jersey area. We would like to find out where this Silk City Design name originated. It's possible the writer meant a Silk City design. If you have any information, please write us.
