In the News - Miss Portland Diner

Another news article about the Miss Portland Diner. Today's Portland Press Herald reported it cost $1.2 million to reopen the Miss Portland Diner. Several articles over the course of the past year or more, mentioned the selling price of the diner and the land was $25,000 and $75,000 respectively.

While the cost of restoring diners may seem out of reach for some, other diner projects have cost much less. The Road Island Diner, a 1939 O'Mahony built diner received a full frame-up restoration. During that process several missing elements required fabrication. Costs associated with this project were around $1 million. Getting the former Wendell's Corner Snack Bar open again as the Tin Man was in the neighborhood of $50,000.

We should note these are diners in a different location, era, manufacturer, state of preservation and restoration. Such aspects will result in a difference of expenses.
