Former Red Wing Diner - Walpole, MA

Daily News Transcript reported the Red Wing restaurant is under new ownership.

In looking at the exterior, you might not know there's a 1930's Worcester Lunch Car Company diner in there. In fact it's been quite some time since it was used as a diner. The picture at left shows it's almost completely encased on the right side of the restaurant. Looking closely near the roof line is the diner's original arched solid orange stained glass in the windows. Other 1930's Worcester Lunch Car Company diners in Massachusetts such as Arthur's Paradise, Boulevard and Kathy's also have the orange stained glass. Though Arthur's and Boulevard have a slightly different style.

During our last visit, we noticed the former diner functions as the bar for the restaurant, retaining its counter, stools, and tile floor.

  1. The owners still refer to it as the Red Wing Diner, and as you said it is mostly used as a bar for the larger restaurant but you can still eat in it. The seating is basically the same as when it came out of the factory except instead of booths there are tables and chairs. Great food and not too screwed up on the interior at least.
I show a current shot on Diner Hotline along with a circa 1940's shot when it wasn't covered.

  2. Thanks for the information and picture. Not sure what was on interior walls, though it was reminiscent of what I saw at the former Miss Port Henry.

Here's a direct link to his blog post with the picture.
